A truck traveling I-75 Northbound spilled herbicide across two lanes of traffic. The material splashed onto the van of a family returning from vacation. Members of the family complained of irritations from the chemical and were sent to the hospital for observation. Industrial Hydro-Blast was contracted to remove the herbicide form the roadway and shoulder. The state DOT closed portions of the interstate to allow for cleaning. Waterblasters were used to clean the road surface while a vacuum truck captured the contaminated water and placed it into drums. Approximately 10 yards of contaminated soil was excavated and placed into a rolloff for disposal. The shoulder was backfilled and seeded to DOT specifications and the road was reopened that day. All the contaminated materials were transported to a licensed and insured disposal facility.
